Sitting down to gather my thoughts about the CPA exam makes me realize my first section will be here before I know it – right now I’m planning to take Financial Accounting & Reporting (FAR) either the last week of February or the first week of March. Throw in the holidays, my birthday (January 4th!), and the upcoming snowboarding season and the first exam is practically on my doorstep. That’s definitely a scary thought.
I took the first three sections of the live Becker course from July through November; my last section to take is Regulatory which doesn’t start until January. Not exactly looking forward to it, but it’s a necessary evil. The first three really did feel beneficial (I guess I’ll have to revisit that statement once I take the exam though, lol). I’ve been looking over the flashcards before bed each night, but not nearly giving studying as much attention as I was during the course.
Year-end is our busy season in internal audit – we’re on a calendar year plan and we’re trying to finish up all the audits, issue the remaining reports, and tie up any outstanding action plans before the end of the month. Both good and bad, our business month end for December falls on the 21st, so our work doesn’t carry into the holidays, but it also presses us for time.
I’ve got vacation days to use during the week before New Year’s, so I’m hoping to get a significant amount of studying in there. I’m thinking a glass of egg nog might make studying less painful, but not sure how helpful ;-) A question to you guys though, how are you staying motivated during the holidays to keep studying?
Better get back to work…I’ve got a fieldwork completion meeting and a “Skip Level” (we meet with our Managing Director – three “levels” above an associate) this afternoon!
