Hi All,
How is everyone? I hope studying is going well, and everyone is getting passing scores.
It's been a while since my last update. Since the previous update, I have taken the Regulation exam and began my preparation for Audit (again). I've gone through 1 module in the Wiley book, and have been going back and forth to the questions. I just missed passing the last two Audit exams because of my multiple choice, so I will use the multiple choice to guide my review of the Becker lectures (especially since reading everything beforehand and waiting until the end to do questions really hasn't helped me learn or reinforce anything.) I know that I have advised doing questions and referring directly back to the reference material, but it has been hard to break out of my old study habit of trying to do everything at once. Right now, I feel like I'm getting mixed results: I get more questions right, but I don't seem to understand the material as well as I thought I did. I guess what I think is an understanding is probably not, and that would explain why I didn't pass this part as of yet.
But I digress. As the heading says, this post is about my client assignment. At the time of my last post, I just finished busy season, and returned back to my home office. Busy season (for Tax at least) refers to preparing Tax Returns to file them by the deadline (which in this case was the extension deadline for year end filers). Since coming back to my office, I have been picked up on another client on Tax work not related to return preparation (yes, for those that weren't sure, Tax Professionals do much much more than keying in information in returns). Without getting into much detail, we have an important deadline, and so as you can imagine, I'm busy at work.
Once again, it seems that I'm going to be too busy to study, and once again, I will conveniently have an excuse for not passing. The just recently received some great advice regarding this point. I have met someone that also worked long hours and worked under imminent deadlines. Even after working late hours, they were able to sit down and force themselves to study to pass this test. After hearing this, I realized that 1) I don't have hours that are crazier or harder to work around than anyone else, and 2) it is possible to work hard and still study hard enough to pass the test. I will give an even harder effort to find a way to make this work.
Well, I know I've ranted for long enough. Time to get to studying and doing the things that I should have been doing all along. Hopefully the next post will be a joyous one where we have met our deadline. If not, at the bare minimum, I hope to leave a post after having given my best effort.
Let the countdown to November 28th begin!
