A BIG sigh of relief, but more challenges await

Happy holidays to all!!!!

I hope that you are all enjoying the holiday season while finding some quality time to study as well.  I received some awesome news last week.....I passed REG!!!!!!  Wooo-hooo!  That was the best Christmas present I could have asked for.

Don't get too excited, though.  Although I have been trying to study as much as possible the past several weeks, I have been falling way behind in preparing for AUD.  Between work, holiday parties, last minute Christmas shopping, and spending time with family and friends, I have managed to dig myself into a deep hole.  I am way off my studying goals for this section (AUD), but I will keep working hard. 

I have been reading through the lectures and practicing the multiple choice.  I decided to not work through the simulations since I felt that they provided me with little benefit for my previous two exams.  These next 12 days will be hectic, but I have no choice.  My goal is to wrap things up by next Thursday and then do an intensive mini-review.  My exam is scheduled for January 11th.  Wish me luck!!!

I hope everyone is working hard, receiving good news, and feeling comfortable about upcoming exams.  Don't lose your motivation!

The next flight after "74"

Hello Everyone,

I am back, and pumped for my next exam "Regulation" I have read the books, final review, past questions, AICPA released questions all for " 1 " point.

The Regulation airline departs for me on the 2nd of January at 8am, at the Fair lawn airport (test  center). I am hoping to land on the island of (above 75) by mid february (when the scores are released).

Enough to get you all laughing, we all need a laugh sometimes, and all the time. Sometimes we also need to de-stress, and live a little bit, but I wish everyone a safe New Year, I had a lot of questions for Santa this year, I actually told him to keep his gifts and give me all goods scores in 2010, he told me I was greedy, and asked for too much, I told him to come through with it or else...........CPA, CPA, CPA..One day it would be over.

Now to answer Jen's question (my fellow blogger)  if you apply for another NTS you should get it in 2-3 business days by email.

Review Time

Hi all!

Hope everyone had a good holiday!  I know mine was quite relaxing, and it was much needed after an interesting/busy month at work.  Now it's back to business.  I have to focus on getting as much reviewing of Financial done for during these next two weeks before my test on the 9th.  It's always crazy to me how fast these test days creep up.  

I will say that getting through the material was much easier this time around.  My original plan was to take Financial first, so I had already gone through the lectures and homework during the summer and I was completely overwhelmed. Now, with this review time, which will be a third time for me reworking the homework and getting more familiar with the material, I'm hoping for a passing score.  But you never know.

Before I go, I do have a quick question for everyone that has had to re-take an exam.  About how long does the reapplication process take?

Study Time Awaits

Hi All,

As I have learned during the course of this exam study and the beginning of my career, the best laid plans are usually tested.  The last two weeks have been an adventure in an of itself, and this exam prep has been put to the side.

Two weeks ago, I was finishing up the minor details on the client work that I had since October.  Things were slowing down, and with Tax Training, I was sort of studying for Reg without actually studying for Reg.  That came to an end when I found out I had the opportunity to help out on a client that I previously worked on.  The only catch was that this would be a one week assignment where I would be in Pittsburgh.  As such, I spent almost all of the last week in Pittsburgh working to help that team meet a deadline.

Between work and the studying, my personal life has been reduced.  The biggest highlight and most humbling moment in my personal life was this weekend when one of my best friends ands' married his college sweetheart.  I had the honor of serving as best man at his wedding.  Being able to reconnect with friends and having to think through a best man speech has given me a new perspective.

I know that I haven't provided much of an update with the studying.  I have the next two weeks off, and plan to go through all 7 Becker lectures.  As we speak, the software is being loaded on my machine.  The goal is to watch a piece of the lecture and answer the questions (not spending the proper amount of time on multiple choice practice questions has been the determining factor between the parts I passed and the parts I did not pass)

"Patiently" waiting

Hi everyone,

I hope you have been doing well and studying hard.  I am still waiting for my score on REG; I took it on November 30.  Has anyone else received wave 2 scores from the last test window????

I am still going through AUD and trying to get through as much as I can before the fast-approaching Christmas weekend.

As soon as I get my score back, I will let you know!

Studying for AUD; Preparing for the holidays

Hi everyone,

I hope you are doing well.  Let's keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming wave of scores (hopefully all passing!!) being released.  I am now finished with my masters -- wooo-hooo!  Now I can focus on just studying for the CPA Exam after work. 

I started going through the audit material on Monday.  It seems fairly dense so far, but nothing I haven't already learned; that's good news!  However, I am getting a little worried about the upcoming holidays and, of course, the festivities that come with.  In sticking with my study schedule, I will be a no-show at quite a few parties.  I also will use every spare minute to study. 

Shopping for the holidays can be a pain, too.  As such, I have been making the most of shopping on-line!!!!  I have managed to not only avoid the crowds, but I haven't lost too much time studying either.

The multiple choice for AUD is a killer; endless questions!  I feel, though, that the questions are most important, so I have been going through them carefully.

Keep working hard and please do share your success tips and passing scores!!  I look forward to hearing from you.

Post-REG....On to AUD

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a nice holiday.  I spent my Thanksgiving weekend studying and then I took my exam on Monday, November 30th.

REG was tough; especially the simulations, in my opinion.  Memorization was key and reviewing the multiple choice over and over again proved to be more than worthwhile.  I felt that the exam was definitely possible and maybe a little bit easier than FAR, but still, I did not leave with a good feeling.  There is nothing I can do to boost my score at this point, though, so now it's on to AUD.

I did not start AUD yet because I was at a Governmental Accounting Conference at Rutgers yesterday.  The rest of this week I will devote to wrapping things up for my last masters course (Forensic Accounting); I will take my final exam on Friday or Saturday. 

Once my masters course is completed, I will attack AUD with vigor. Progress updates to come...

Keep working  hard.  This is an "off" month, which means we should all be studying our tails off.  Forget about the holidays, they'll be back next year.  Let's do it.

Window 1 for 2010

Hello Everyone,

Ahhhhhhh, I am still a bit sore from my last score, but I have to keep going. Honestly passing is sweet, but not as sweet as passing after failing. I don't call failing the CPA a failure, but " a shot at success" and as long as you keep shooting your going to hit the target (75).

In all my CPA exams taken so far, and to be precise (six in total for 2009) waiting for one more score (BEC), I have always moved up in my scores. Each time I prepare again for a new part, I end up understanding the topic more. So for those out there who are like me "still trying to pass" keep your hopes alive, and never stop taking it. If you stop taking the exam, then you will forget everything, and all prior efforts would be wasted. I have a strong belief that I'll report some good news soon.

I have invested so much in this exam for me to stop trying........

So, I have scheduled my next exam, Regulation for the 3rd time on January 2nd 2010 hopefully the gods of the CPA would let go of one point and give me my freedom, since they decided that they like my face and gave me a "74."

My first busy season experience with Deloitte starts next month, and I am looking forward to it (" I know, I sound strange") but, I cannot dwell on the negative, I have to stay positive....
