Busy Season Planning

Hi All,

Much to update you on.  First, busy season has begun, so time management has come to the forefront.  I’ve struggled to study after coming home from work, so I’ve started to wake up an hour earlier in order to get some time in.  I hope this works out.

As per Reg., I took my exam yesterday.  Breaking up the chapters into smaller segments and doing multiple choice immediately afterwards, helped me learn the topics.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do all the multiple choice questions for every section, but felt like the ones I did helped me understand the minutiae of the material (i.e. limitations on certain adjustments, basis rules, etc…)

I hope I passed as I am pushing this close.  I’m cautiously optimistic (although that feeling has meant bad scores in the past).  Worst case scenario, I’ve got a backup plan to study again after audit.

Also, I want to thank Ed for his advice and help in studying for Reg.

 

I’ll check in this week and update you as to how my Audit study is going.

Busy Season Heat.....

Hello Everyone,

My exams are on temporary hold for now, I am still studying, also awaiting scores for my REG next month. But just to let you all in on a few of my happy struggles with work. I have been working late, but the good thing about it is that its only for a short time, and also its a career and not a job.

I was scheduled to re-take Audit today the 24th, but I changed my mind last week. I am looking at the beginning of April. I love my job, and I learn new things everyday. My son surprised me the other day he is 2+, and just started talking. He asked me "Daddy what are you doing?" that brought a big smile to my face.

Hi everyone!

I'm very sorry I have been so quiet on here.  Let me give you a little update on what's been going on over the last few weeks.

I took FAR (my first attempt) on the 9th.  Again, I left the exam with a not so confident feeling.  Oddly enough, I keep finding myself looking at the questions, knowing I have worked them before, but totally forgetting how I did it.  I guess, overall, I'm struggling with retaining all of the information from the review course.  One things is for sure, this exam is not easy!

I also received my REG score - 69. Booo.  But it's 4 points better than my AUD score (to look at it in a positive light).

Work has been hectic.  Busy season hours started right after New Years and I actually just got back from a business trip to Puerto Rico.  While it may sounds nice, it really meant working all day at the client, then going back to the hotel and doing more work.  Because of this I can honestly say I have not been able to study.  And with the way things are going, I will probably not be able to resume studying until after busy season is over.  It will hopefully give me some time to come up with a new plan to tackle this beast of a test.

Falling behinddddddddddd!

Hi everyone,

I hope all is well.  I also hope (and expect!) that you are studying hard and, for those of you taking sections of the exam, doing well on the exam.

I have been falling behind with studying. I took AUD about two weeks.  I got sick right before the exam and it took about a week to get better.  I also have been really busy at work and also taking care of some other things outside of work and studying.  With that said, I hate to tell you, but I am way behind in studying for BEC.

These next 22 days will be filled with some intense studying.  My exam is on the 13th of February and that is the last day I can take it before my NTS expires.

Suggestion: Do NOT apply for all four parts of the exam if you don't plan on taking them within at least four months.  Give yourself some "wiggle room".  I have none. Haha.

Keep working hard.  I will keep you posted of my progress during the next three weeks.  Wish me luck!

Staying on Track...

Hello Everyone,

I must confess work has been busy for me, but I am determined to do my Audit exam next Sunday. Lets hope I can finish early too; my previous experience was not like that, I found my self using an 1hour for each testlet and 45 mins for each simulation.

Audit can be very tricky, because a lot of answers look similar, so it can be easy to pass and very easy to fail too. I wish everyone the best this window, I know I need a lot of luck myself. Work is getting very hectic, and I need to start passing.

Whirlwind Weekend; On to BEC

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all doing well.  As you may know, I took AUD on Monday.  I was rather busy at work last week and so I spent the entire weekend studying.  Unfortunately, I got sick on Sunday and ended up not getting any sleep on Sunday night.  So, I took the exam on Monday with no sleep and feeling terrible, haha!

The exam had some tricky questions.  I felt like I took my time and was fairly well-prepared.  I finished in 2.5hrs!!!!!!  Has anyone else finished that quickly???  I just did not think that 4.5 hrs was needed at all.

I will start studying for BEC now.  My exam is scheduled for February 13th (the last day I can take it before my NTS expires!!!).  It's time to really buckle down and get through this exam!  I came this far!

Trying to stay on plan

Hi All,

First, I want to congratulate Wendy on finally becoming licensed.  Thank you for letting us follow you on the exam, and I hope to follow in your footsteps soon.

Right now I'm going through lecture 3.  The original plan was to go through it during the week.  Viewing the lectures has helped me in understanding the material, but it has been difficult to split it up during the week and still make time to do questions.  Rather than loosing the week all together, I've went over contract law material.

The goal for tonight is to go over as much of lecture 3 as possible tonight.  During the week I hope to cover either lecture 4 (Partnership and Estate Taxation) or Lectures 5 and 6 (Negotiable instruments and Agency Law).  With 2 weeks left, and 3 remaining lectures, I feel confident that I can go through the material.  I've set up a plan so that I can cover a little bit of the material each night and not stress myself out the week before.

Time to get studying.  Good luck, especially for all those starting busy season.

One final post- FINALLY a CPA

It's been a long time since I've posted, I just wanted to give a very excited update- IM FINALLY A CPA!!!! :)  I received the letter from NJ saying they approved me for my license just before the holidays. 

Thanks to everyone for all their support through the long and trecherous process. There IS an end to it all, and it's a VERY exciting end!!! Keep studying and you WILL get through it soon! 

I'll be sending smart thoughts to everyone who's studying for an upcoming exam.
