FAR re-take

Hello everyone!  So today is the second to last day of testing for 2010 and I re-took my FAR exam which I previously received a 73 on.  I gave myself about 3 weeks to study after I took BEC on 11/5 but I didn't get much done.  Working full-time and attempting to study after a full work day didn't work out too well for me.  I was so tired and so burnt out I just didn't make the time to do as much studying as I really should have.  In fact, I didn't study much at all over 3 weeks.  I really crammed the night and morning before in hopes that my memory would be jogged and it would all come back.  I tried to keep a positive state of mind going into this exam despite the fact that I really did not feel prepared.  But, I came out feeling indifferent.  I don't feel horrible and I don't feel great.  So now we just wait a month and see if I knocked out all the exams I strived to pass in 2010.  I was looking forward to a break from studying because my 2011 REG book had not yet been delivered but as it turns out, it came today in the mail!  So no relaxing for me.  But on a lighter note, grad school is officially over in 3 weeks!  That will be a big relief and a big accomplishment for me.  I can't wait to finally have something done and over with.  So here's to finishing school and hopefully passing my FAR exam ?!  Good luck to those who are also waiting for scores.  We will get it done!

 Hello Everyone,

Sorry, I have  no scores for you in the first wave, but I am very thrilled and excited for my fellow bloggers who are all kicking this exams right out of the way.

I have been so busy with work, jumping right from one project to the other. It just keeps coming, but I am glad that I am keeping up with the speed.

I have some exciting non-cpa related news, I would be closing on my second home in a few weeks. I bought my initial home (a condo) right after college, and now I am buying a (1 family home) just 9 years old. I am super excited.

When things slow down for me in a few weeks I would be back in study mode, and would have some exciting study tips for you all. For now enjoy the upcoming holidays, and remember that the CPA exams and struggles would end one day, as long as you keep trying.

I should be happy I passed REG, right?

I guess it comes as no surprise from the title of this post that I passed my REG exam. Scores were released on Friday and I held off from looking until I finished taking my BEC exam on Monday ---- more on that exam in a bit. I held off from previewing my REG score until I knew that I was ready to accept either outcome – a pass or a failure. My logic for waiting until after taking BEC was that I didn’t want to walk into the exam either overconfident or unconfident and have those thoughts distract me from doing my best on BEC.

Even though I know I passed, I’m not quite as thrilled as I was when I saw my AUD and FAR scores. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy, I’m just not jumping for joy on this one. I guess that’s because I’ve been on this exam journey with a few of my closest friends and I see the time, sweat and tears that they are also putting into these exams but are not enjoying the same rewards as I am. I just feel like if I tell them that I passed, my friends will feel as if I’m rubbing it in and make them feel worse – and that’s not what I want to happen! I don’t know if this is making any sense or if anyone else can relate, but I think it’s something I should mention given my lackluster feelings over my most recent success.

On a different note…I sat for BEC yesterday. I'm not too thrilled about my performance because I know that last week I completely ran out of steam and just couldn’t find the strength to keep studying hard. I tried my hardest to look at least 2 sets of notecards daily, but outside of that, the train was not moving from the station. Time had finally taken its toll on me. After 6 straight months of non-stop, hard-pressed studying, the batteries finally ran out and needed a recharge. Even though I know I just stopped studying during the last 4 days of my exam preparation, I don’t regret it. I know I studied as much as I humanly could and without pulling back a little I would not have been able to function at all.

For those still studying, keep up the hard work, you’re almost there. The testing window closes in t minus 7 days and counting…

2 Down 2 to Go!!

Hey everyone!  I received some even more good news this week, I passed AUD!!  This was my 1st re-take so it turned out well for me :)  A little more studying was all I needed.  Now I am making my best effort to study for my re-take of FAR on Monday.  I have found it extremely difficult to study after a long day at work and keeping up with my grad classes.  Plus the holiday weekend doesn't leave much room or much desire to study.  So hopefully I will pull through and have 3 down going into 2011.  I plan to take REG the second week of January before I head into my first busy season.  So here it goes.  For those of you who have been in my boat of having to re-take an exam, don't see it as a bad thing.  Take the time to really polish what you knew and gain a better understanding of what you didn't know.  It's just extra prep time and you also will have abetter idea of what the exam is like.  Good luck to all those pushing through like me!  Happy Thanksgiving to all !!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I received two scores this week and they were for FAR and REG and I was fortunate enough to see very high passing grades!!  I'm very excited and nervous at the same time.  Now I feel like there's more pressure to pass AUD on Tuesday (which, I am not prepared for).  I have only reviewed the materials for Lecture 1, 2 and half of 3.  I need to finish all of them by Tuesday and be ready and comfortable to sit for a four and a half hour exam.

Something I learned this week: www.twitter.com/nasba is an awesome site to know when scores are being released.  I only found out about it this week.  Also, the new rolling release system by nasba has been really fluid and great.

Shoutouts to one of my close friends Dan Gurney for passing FAR (I told you that you would pass)!! And congratulations to the other bloggers that have received their scores!  It's amazing hearing all the wonderful news.

For those of you that did not receive the best of news, keep your heads held up high.  As you can see with our bloggers, it's really about the mental toughness and the ability to continue to put your best effort into studying that really helps you reach the light at the end of the tunnel.  It's a rewarding feeling and I know many people that have failed the first, second, and maybe even the third time, but are now reaping the benefits of being a licensed CPA.

PASSED REG WITH A 91!!

Hi Everyone! As you can tell I am super exciteddd!! I had a horrible day yesterday after taking BEC and I got home from work today to see I passed a 91 on REG! Now I just have to wait a month until the next BEC scores come out!!! Good luck everyone!
