Hey all!
So for today's posting, I want to talk about passion. And yes, I do realize it seems like a bit of an oxymoron when considering accounting and passion together, but I urge you to reconsider. While accountants have been plagued with the stereotype of that quiet isolated worker crunching away in the corner of the office, we should know for ourselves that this is far from the truth. I myself have come to know more than a handful of very interesting people who consider themselves to be accountants.
I do have to say that I felt that accounting was boring on more than one occassion. But this was because I was working in areas that didn't interest me. Just because I'm an accountant doesn't mean that I love cost accounting or consolidated financial statements. What it does mean is that I love to learn and understand difficult concepts. That's what accounting is for me. As you take this exam, whether an experienced professional or a recent graduate or soon to be graduate from college, passion and enjoyment in what you do are things to consider. As much as some of may love the profession, I will be one of many to tell you that it is not for everyone. Being honest with yourself is the best way to find out whether it is the right path for you.
But I will tell you this, even if you take this exam and end up moving into a different field, the type of confidence that it can bring is not easily replicated. Committing the kind of time and effort that we do to obtain this certification is not found overnight, but that's just part of the game.
So think about why you're doing this and remind yourself of the good things that are to come from completing this exam. Only good things can follow!
Happy studying!
